SKILLS & STANDARDS
Middle School Health Daily Reading targets Ontario-aligned learning by supporting year-long development of health literacy: reading for understanding, interpreting situations, and making responsible choices. Throughout Grade 6–8, students revisit key concepts such as well-being indicators, healthy relationships and communication, safety planning, nutrition decision-making, and fitness benefits.
The sequence supports vertical progression by shifting from foundational awareness to deeper analysis. Students practice explaining strategies using evidence from the text, applying cause-and-effect reasoning to health choices, and using structured responses to demonstrate understanding. Social-emotional learning threads through the year as students build skills for recognizing emotions, managing stress, seeking help, and responding respectfully in both in-person and online contexts.
Across the bundle, students engage in analytical reasoning, including interpreting scenarios, identifying risks and protective factors, connecting personal goals to outcomes, and demonstrating readiness to participate safely and inclusively in physical activities.

HOW TO USE
Plan weekly pacing by assigning a set of Daily Reading worksheets that match your curriculum sequence, then rotate themes so students continue to build transferable health language and decision-making habits. For example, use the first few minutes of class for a quick read-and-discuss routine, then complete the worksheet independently or in pairs.
For station work, group worksheets by theme (communication, safety, nutrition, fitness) and add a short prompt card that students reference before writing. For sub days, provide a consistent routine: read the prompt, underline key details, and complete the responses using sentence starters. Finally, schedule light review weeks before major summative checks by selecting earlier worksheets from the same theme—this helps students strengthen retention and meet Ontario expectations with confidence.
