The different response formats allow students to work with the topic through selected responses, brief written answers, reading, and extended writing rather than relying on a single activity format.

The Student Notes lines at the bottom of the worksheet give learners space to record notes connected with the lesson. The reading passage and essay task also provide opportunities to move from focused responses toward longer written work.
