Constitution Day citizenship worksheets for Grade 5 Holiday lessons use a community event and service project to help students explore unity, respect, cooperation, and everyday citizenship.

What Students Explore

The reading passage follows families, students, local leaders, volunteers, and neighbors as they participate in a Constitution Day community program. Students examine how listening to different viewpoints, taking turns speaking, following community rules, treating people fairly, and cooperating with others can strengthen a community. The passage also connects citizenship to service through cleaning a local park, collecting books for a community library, and making cards for residents in nearby care homes.

Practice That Builds Civic Thinking

Students work through reading comprehension questions, multiple-choice questions, true-or-false statements, concise written responses, a matching activity, an extended response, and a Did You Know? section. Tasks ask students to identify the purpose of Constitution Day events, recognize respectful discussion behaviors, identify examples of community service, explain everyday citizenship, and connect unity and respect to a classroom or neighborhood situation.

Ready for a September Lesson

Use this Grade 5 worksheet for a Constitution Day or Citizenship Day lesson, independent practice, reading review, class discussion, or written reflection. The extended response gives students an opportunity to apply the passage's civic values to a realistic situation involving different opinions and propose a specific action they could take.
