Discussion Norms is a Grade 6 ELA worksheet focused on speaking and listening, giving students structured practice with discussion norms through a range of question and response formats.

What students practise

The worksheet keeps the focus on speaking and listening skills and discussion norms. Students respond to multiple-choice questions, true-or-false statements, short-answer prompts, a reading passage, an essay task, and a short-note activity. This combination gives teachers several ways to check how students engage with the lesson topic in written form.

What you receive

• Multiple-choice and true-or-false questions
• Short-answer, reading passage, essay, and short-note tasks
• Student Notes lines at the bottom of the worksheet

Classroom use

Use this Grade 6 speaking and listening worksheet as guided classwork, independent practice, a lesson review, or a written check of student learning after teaching discussion norms. The varied response formats make it suitable for moving from selected-response questions into more open written responses.

The resource is identified with the Alberta framework and is designed for ELA instruction around speaking and listening. The Student Notes lines provide space for students to record additional information during or after the activity.

Why it fits a Grade 6 ELA lesson

Teachers get one focused practice resource that combines discussion-norms questions with reading and written-response opportunities. Instead of relying on a single question format, students work through different ways of responding while staying centered on the same speaking and listening topic.
