Evidence & Research Writing in Grade 11 ELA TEKS brings Daily Reading Worksheets into focus for 5 targeted classroom days. This Lesson Bundle supports students as they read, evaluate, and write using credible evidence, moving from source credibility to research-question planning and finally to argument-focused documentation of claims. The unit is designed for daily momentum: each worksheet builds a specific step of evidence-based writing while keeping instruction grounded in TEKS-aligned reading and writing expectations. With five lessons, students practice analyzing what makes evidence trustworthy, clarifying how arguments are supported, and documenting where information comes from—skills that transfer to larger research tasks and argumentative writing.

Skills & Standards

---

Aligned to TEKS expectations, this unit emphasizes evidence-based reading and writing through cycles of analysis, note-taking, and accountable explanations. Students practice disciplinary core ideas centered on constructing meaning and making claims using textual evidence. They learn to model research and analytical reasoning by turning reading observations into written statements, then revising those statements as they encounter additional information. Throughout the lessons, students use structured checks to determine credibility, identifying how author perspective, bias, and support affect the strength of evidence. They also engage in argument development by distinguishing claims from supporting reasoning and evidence, then documenting where evidence originates. Finally, students address conflicts in information by comparing sources, explaining differences with justification, and revising their writing to reflect the most defensible evidence. These tasks support evidence-based explanations, clear organization, and responsible documentation habits required for high-quality argumentative and research writing under TEKS.

How to Use

---

Use this single-unit Lesson Bundle over a typical 1–3 week pacing plan, depending on your class schedule. Start with a brief daily warm-up (5–7 minutes) that previews the day's evidence focus, then follow with guided practice using the worksheet's organizer or prompts. For independent work, have students write a short accountable response at the end of each day (2–4 sentences) using the lesson's evidence requirement. Conclude the unit with an end-of-unit review where students revisit their research question and checklist their sources for credibility and documentation readiness—an efficient way to prepare for a larger writing assessment.
