Skills & Standards

---

This bundle supports General English Language Arts goals by building students’ ability to engage in evidence-based reasoning, interpret rhetorical strategies, and communicate ideas with control. Across the worksheets, students practice modeling and analytical reasoning by identifying how claims are developed through evidence and reasoning, then explaining how those choices shape meaning for a specific context. Students also strengthen evidence-based explanations by using CER thinking to connect what they say to what the text or source supports. Instruction emphasizes disciplinary core skills used in ELA: integrating ideas for academic discussions, adapting language for audience and purpose, and presenting information clearly with an organized progression of ideas. You can also use the unit’s progression to scaffold planning, rehearsal, and refinement—so students move from analysis to collaboration to presentation.

How to Use

---

Plan for 1–3 weeks of instruction, choosing a pacing that matches your class needs. Consider using a quick warm-up each day (for example, a short rhetorical claim or discussion prompt) before students complete the worksheet work. Follow with guided practice where you model one completed example (especially CER reasoning and audience adaptation), then use exit tickets that ask students to summarize a key takeaway from the day’s speaking or reasoning task. Finish with an end-of-unit review where students connect evidence-based analysis to their seminar or presentation plan.
