Editing Mechanics: Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation gives Grade 12 ELA students focused practice with the editing skills that help writing stay accurate, clear, and faithful to its intended meaning. Using an Ontario framework, the resource centers on practical editing decisions involving grammar, usage, punctuation, capitalization, and word forms.

What Students Practice

• Identify and correct verb tense and subject–verb agreement errors.
• Check pronoun reference so antecedents are clear.
• Use commas, quotation marks, capitalization, and sentence-ending punctuation accurately.
• Recognize word forms and punctuation choices that improve clarity.
• Apply editing strategies that improve readability while preserving meaning.

What Students Do

The resource combines a reading passage with multiple-choice questions, true-or-false statements, short-answer responses, matching, a cloze passage, an extended response, and a Did You Know? section. Students move from identifying editing principles to explaining how those choices affect clear communication.

Designed for Classroom Use

Use the worksheet for guided instruction, independent grammar and editing practice, review, or writing-focused classroom work. The passage provides a common context for the questions, while the extended response asks students to explain how an editor can improve a paragraph without changing the writer's intended meaning.

Included With the Resource

• Student worksheet focused on grammar, usage, and punctuation
• Student Notes & Lesson Summary supplement
• Separate Teacher Guide with learning objectives, teaching tips, discussion questions, and common mistakes

The combination of targeted editing practice and teacher support makes this resource useful when students need structured work with verb tense, subject–verb agreement, pronouns, punctuation, capitalization, word forms, and meaning-preserving revision.
