Theme justification gives Grade 8 ELA students focused practice in reading and viewing as they work with a reading passage and justify their thinking about theme.

What students practise

• Multiple-choice questions that check reading and viewing skills.
• True-or-false questions that reinforce comprehension and interpretation.
• Short-answer responses that require students to express their thinking in writing.
• A reading passage followed by an essay task for extended written response.
• A short note activity that provides another opportunity to record learning.

What you receive

The worksheet includes the student activities above, plus student notes lines at the bottom for students to record additional notes as they work.

Classroom use

Use this Grade 8 reading and viewing worksheet for individual practice, written classroom work, lesson reinforcement, or an opportunity to check students' ability to respond to questions and justify ideas about theme. The mix of selected-response and written tasks gives students different ways to demonstrate their reading and viewing work.

Why it fits Grade 8 ELA

The resource keeps the focus on theme justification while combining comprehension-style questions with short and extended written responses. Its Alberta framework designation makes it a practical addition to an Alberta Grade 8 ELA classroom when working on reading and viewing.
